Worse Gift for Obama’s first anniversary!
One day ahead of the first anniversary of President Obama’s inauguration as the Head of the sole superpower in the world on January 20, his Democratic party was humbled and lost a senate race, and had just lost a filibuster-proof 60-seat majority in the Senate.
Republican Scott Brown has won a shock victory in the race for the US Senate seat in Massachusetts left vacant by Democrat Edward ‘Ted’ Kennedy‘s death.
The result is a huge blow to President Barack Obama, whose healthcare reform programme is now in doubt. This will make it much harder for Mr Obama to pass a healthcare reform bill – the most important domestic policy objective of his first year as president.
CNN news noted that Brown’s victory made real the once unthinkable prospect of a Republican filling the seat held by Edward ‘Ted’ Kennedy, known as the liberal lion, for almost 47 years until his death from brain cancer in August.
