Will Malaysia lose its ‘Truly Asia’ image?

.

Looking at the racial make-up of Malaysia (see the pic below), one can easily conclude that Malaysia is Truly Asia. It is a country where the two biggest Asian communities – Indians and Chinese make up more than 30 percent of the population and live peacefully and harmoniously with the majority Malays who make up about 53 percent. But that Truly Asia image is being questioned now.

In fact, Malaysia considers its diverse race as an edge over other countries and often advertises around the world using the slogan like ‘Malaysia Truly Asia‘ (see the advertisement photo below)- reflecting the diversity and portraying itself as a model country in Asia. However, if the recent development is any indication, Malaysia may never be a model country in Asia if its leaders do not change their minds.

Vaudine England of BBC News analyses (link below) the recent trends that reflect Malay racial identity fear, and it looks like the country is heading towards a country divided on race.

The racial diversity, the very factor that catapults the country’s image as a ‘Truly Asian Country’ may become a curse for this beautiful country.

Will Malaysia lose its ‘Truly Asia’ image?

Only time will tell….
