Who is governing Mizoram state?
Yes, that’s right. Sometimes, I wonder who really governs our beloved Mizoram state? Lately, we’ve been hearing about NGOs taking the law of the state into their own hands.
Firstly, it was Young Mizo Association (YMA), the largest NGo in the state who took the law of the state into their hands as we all understands. They need to work hard to ensure that rampant manufacturing of alcohols in and around the capital city to be stopped which the state government seemed to have failed as there was plenty to drink even though ‘Alcohol-free state’ makes good news to believers around the world.
And on Sunday, the 22nd July, The Telegraph reported that there were over 400 non-Mizos in the state, who were forced to leave the state after Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), the biggest students’ body in the state issued an ultimatum to Non-Mizos who do not have Inner-line Permit (ILP) to leave the state.
So, who is to be blamed for this kind of situation? Will it be the incompetency of the state government in handling certain situations or these NGOs are more quicker and swifter in dealing with such cases?
And if such things keep happening, will not these NGOs need more power and funds to operate? Or are we just different from the rest of the states in the country and is thisĀ another way of empowering the people? The guess goes on …. while we feast on the power of these NGOs.
