Trains to Nagaland capital soon, will Aizawl follow suit?

Nagaland is going ahead with the construction of railway tract from Dimapur to Kohima, the capital of Nagaland state.

Kohima, Nov 25 (UNI) : The process of laying of 125-km long railway line between Dimapur and Kohima began today following the notification of Dimapur Deputy Commissioner to the Gaon Burahs and Village Chairmen of the villages through which the tracks will be laid.

It further added that:

The proposed railway line through the hilly terrain areas, to be constructed by the Northeast Frontier Railway, survey of which has already been completed, is likely to cross the villages of Dimapur, Nagarjan, Thahekhu, Diphupar, Sovima, Chumukedima, Tenepe, Balijan, Sokhovi, Paglapahar, Khamkhya, Khaibong, Maova, Tsuma, Sochonuma, Sirithima Basam Sirhima, Medzipphema, Piphema, Chephema, Khobvuma, Peducha, Zubza, Kekruma and Thizama of both Dimapur and Kohima districts.

The last stop of the railway line, which will start from Dimapur railway station, will be Zubza, about ten km from Kohima.

Will Mizoram also be ready with railway line passing through the state? It seems that Mizoram too may want to go ahead with railway line as thousands of heavy carriers plying on National Highways in the hilly road can be dangerous. India-Myanmar million dollar trade route will open along Kaladan River through Sittwe Port at Bay of Bengal in Western Burma which is to be connected via the river to south Mizoram, famously known as Kaladan Multi Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP) – when it becomes a reality in fear years, demand of rapid transport will increase naturally. And rail transport is the best option in such situation. If not for passengers, atleast for goods it may be good to have one. Therefore, such projects too may come up in Mizoram.

To me what Nagaland has done is cool. Thousands of students from Nagaland studying in colleges and Universities across India can go home in the comfort of train without having to wait for overnight buses in Guwahati and Dimapur. We don’t need to fear outsiders coming in droves. We still have Inner Line Permit (ILP) in place and we can still check intruders from outside. The train service to Mizoram, perhaps can become like Aizawl City Buses – which are very clean unlike the city buses in other cities across India. Will Aizawl follow the suit, only time will tell.
