I think this table is taken from Dr Lian H Sakhong’s dissertation (he might have published it). What Lian H Sakhong misunderstood completely about the Mara people is that, he put the group “Mara” (Lakher) in par with Ralte, Khiangte of the Mizo or Lusei/Duhlian group. The corresponding structure in Mara for Mizo Ralte, Khiangte, etc is Hlychho, Bohia, Fachhai, etc. These Hlychho, Bohia, Fachhai, etc are not names of tribes, but names of clans within the Mara nation. Therefore, Mara should be in par with Laimi, Mizo, Zomi, Khuami, Asho, etc, what Lian H Sakhong wrongly and narrowly categorized as the six major groups of Chin. If the Mizo people would not accept to come under a people called Chin, then why would Mara people accept to be called Chin. We are Mara. Period. But we the Mara people can accept that we belong to a people group called the Mongloid stock of the Tibeto-Burman groups. And we accept that Laimi, Mizo, Zomi, etc are our brothers. But we are not their sub-tribe.
