Shame on the Presbyterians!
After reading news piece from one of the Christian news sites, I come up with this title for this particular post. Kindly read more…
An openly lesbian minister’s bid to join the clergy may be the first national test of a controversial policy adopted by the Presbyterian Church (USA).
After being denied ordination twice over the past couple of decades because of a ban on ordaining openly gay persons, Lisa Larges made some headway this past week when she gained support from a regional body of the PC(USA).
The San Francisco Presbytery voted Tuesday 167-151 to support Larges’ application for ministry. The vote came after a long debate and despite warnings that the action violated the church’s constitution and would be appealed.

I’ve always had the highest respect for any Presbyterians, I can’t imagine such thing to happen. If those openly practicing gays wanted to establish a new Church with their ideology no one can stop them in a free country like US. However, PC (USA), partner of Presbyterian Church of India(PCI) of which Mizoram Presbyterian Churches (Mizoram Synod) is a dominant player if not the major constituent, actually voted 167-151 to support such dubious lesbian-led ministry.
No doubt the Church membership is dwindling, I guess PCI will be disturbed by this development if it goes through. Or is PC(USA) doing the right thing? We are living in such a confused (Western) world. But I’m clear in my mind, God cannot be brought down by men’s votes nor 99 greater than one. It’s not about the numbers!
As Christians we must love Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transexual (LGBT) people but that doesn’t mean we have to accept their lifestyle as if it is compatible with the Word of God. We must tell them that it is wrong and that all they need is Jesus to change them. The thing which is not possible with men will become possible with God when they are filled with the Holy Spirit.
When the dust settles and clears the truth will still stand. Vote counts won’t matter. Glory be to God Almighty!
Update on Jan 25: The title does not in anyway mock any Presbyterians. As such it shouldn’t be generalized. It is not in the interest nor beneficial for me to insult anyone here. It should be understood in the context of the article concerned, therefore, the article ‘the’ has been added to the title – to this effect. – The 167 ministers must re-examine their stand on the issue and repent for voting in favour of the motion. This post merely highlights the issue that has rocked most of the western Churches including the Presbyterians’.
Secondly, the trend also indicates that Presbyterians – PC(USA) in particular may start accepting diverse practices among the ordained ministers which is a dangerous trend. However, it should be noted that the once united Anglican community is virtually splitting due to gay ordination issue, all the Churches should learn a good lesson from them before implementing such move.

Yes, if they do, it’s shame for me to be a Presby. Hope PCI give pressure to them.

Hi Chhuansang, they did recently; kindly follow the second pingback to read the latest development. Since the highest Assembly had voted in favor of LGBT community, now it is up to the Presbyteries to decide. Some presbytery may use it and some may reject. If such things happen it can herald in the beginning of another schism.
