Video: Seoul Bus-only Central lanes reform, transformation
Seoul, 2010 World Design Capital is the capital city of South Korea (50 million approx.). With a population of over 10 million, it is one of the world’s largest cities. Public transportation became a nightmare as nearly 50 percent of the population lives in Seoul National Capital Area (24 million), the second largest metropolitan area.
In 2004, former CEO of Hyundai Engineering and Construction Mr. Lee Myang-bak, the city Mayor, also known as Mr. Bulldozer, who went on to become the current President of the country, took a dramatic reform on the city’s Bus service. The most dramatic transformation was moving the bus lanes to the centre of the road (usually indicated by blue lines) – creating bus-only central lanes, demolished anĀ elevated highway along one river, introducing T-card system and etc, the rest became history – easing the traffic and solving the problem of public transportation.
Watch the video to know the revolution in Seoul Bus service Reform that may soon be emulated in big cities around the world.
