Population of Saiha district decreases from 2001 to 2008
As per the Statistical handbook 2008 of the state government of Mizoram, the population of Saiha and Lawngtlai districts have significantly decreased if our reading is correct. Kindly check with us and help us understand if we have missed out something.

We understand that the above table is putting the population according to social group in 2001. ST population alone was 58,742. With others, the total was 61,056. Click here to see detail

In 2008, the district wise households and population are shown as above. We do not understand how it fell to 48,418!!
If the department wrongly puts the date as 2008, the corresponding figures for other districts should also decrease. But contrary to that, others have increased except Lawngtlai district.
In 7 years, Compare the figures below:
Mamit district – increased from 62,785 to 85,547.
Aizawl district – increased from 3,25,676 to 3,88,238
Champhai district – increased from 1,08,392 to 116,352.
Likewise, Serchhip, Kolasib and Lunglei also increased significantly.
But Lawngtlai – decreased from 70,234 to 68,697
Saiha district – decreased from 61,056 to 48,418.
