Mizoram Food & Civil Supplies Minister has denied any existence of famine in the state due to the flowering of bamboo and the subsequent rat menace that has left farmers no crops to harvest.

Mizoram’s Food & Civil Supplies Minister K Sangthuama has claimed that his department has received no report of famine in the state and also that an angry mob had gathered in the streets of Aizawl to show their grievances over the government for its failure to battle the famine. This is contrary to Media reports of a ‘Mautam’ (famine) in Mizoram state.
