Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl – MHIP Day 2007
Tomorrow, July 6th is Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP) Day. What can we expect on this day?
MHIP is an NGO formed by women for women. It is the biggest Women Association based in Aizawl City, the capital of Mizoram. It draws members in lakhs from women across the state. MHIP will celebrate is Founding Day tomorrow, i.e. 6th July 2007.
They have become a voice for the voiceless women in the state and their political candidates were quite effective in the state assembly elections in the past.
Among Mara Speaking women, who formed the majority in Southern most part of the State, they have a separate women association, they call themselves Mara Chano Py (M.CH.P) with Siaha (Saiha) as their Headquarters. And they assumed the role of MHIP in the South and have become equally powerful like their counterpart in Aizawl.
The works of the these women NGOs have been appreciated by the common people all over the state, and they continue to inspire women in the state.
Will these NGOs too become like Young Mizo Association (YMA) later on? We hope not, they are just different…
