IQ PCs may look like thisThe Personal Computers will be called ‘IQ PCs’ with a price tag of Rs.21,000/- only. This is possible as Microsoft India earlier entered an agreement with Chip-maker Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) instead of Intel, and Zenith Computers to manufacture and sell affordable personal computers in the country.

Speaking about the initiative, Ravi Venkatesan, Chairman of Microsoft India, said that the task ahead of them is to make technology pervasive and useful in the day-to-day lives of more and more people.

Initially IQ PCs will be rolled out in Bangalore and Pune first in the month of July, and it will carry on for about 3 months, enough for Microsoft to judge the response, and roll-out the initiative in other cities across country.

According to Microsoft, IQ PCs are aimed at students from kindergarten to 12th standard, The PCs are set to include Microsoft’s Windows Vista Basic, Works and Student 2007, as well as third-party software, including exam preparation, homework help and English-language learning programs.

However, many people are questioning the price tag of Rs.21,000 (US $500) if this can be  considered as low-cost Computers for Indian standard.
