Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year 2008!

We choose to shout out loud, ‘Merry Christmas’ and proud to whisper advance in wishing you  a very blessed New Year 2008!

Many of us know very well what differences the title of this post makes!

For many non-believers they are offended if we happen to greet them with ‘Merry Christmas’ for they prefer to be greeted with ‘Happy Holiday’. In an overwhelming non-Christian countries like India we greet our non-Christian friends with ‘Merry Christmas’ and they are fine, they have no problem responding us with the same; but their Western counterparts are not kind enough to this word. What a sad situation we are witnessing at this point of time.

Christmas is about Christ’s birth and we are merry about it. But precisely, Richard Dawkins and his friends do not think the same. They said, Christmas is simply a pagan festival, borrowed and Christianized in the history.

Secondly, in return we prefer to wish you ‘a blessed New Year 2008′ instead of ‘Happy New Year 2008′.

This post is without any related pictures.

Once again,

Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year 2008!

I don’t quite agree :) I have more non-Christian friends than Christians in my entire life, because I have been brought up at “phai”. And every X-mas, all my friends take so much effort to prepare an Xmas party or Xmas dinner for me. In fact on Xmas day, I go around wishing all the people I know right from the shopkeeper near my house in delhi to my sardarji landlord. I even wish the auto drivers I use. And they all always smile back at me to wish me back.

Likewise, I wish my muslim friends a happy Eid and hindu friends a happy diwali, and they wish me back. I haven’t faced any occasions when non-Christians don’t like being wished a “merry Christmas” :) But then I wish only people I know, and may probably face resentment as you mentioned from strangers (like those in Orissa… hehehe)

And yes Christmas is about the birth of our Lord and savior. But one thing we should always remember clearly is that 25th December is not the exact date that he was born. Scientists have calculated his birth to be somewhere around July - August. What we should always remember is what the date 25th December signifies: the arrival of our Lord. Glory be to Him.
