Maraland Democratic Front(MDF) & MNF join hands for MLA election
AIZAWL – Maraland Democratic Front (MDF) who spearheaded Union Territorry for Maraland are now part of Mizo National Front (MNF) who have staunchly opposed the same ideology.
According to Vanglaini, Aizawl City based Mizo daily newspaper, the agreement to work together was signed at Mizoram Chief Minister’s Residence on Saturday Sept.6, 2008, it was signed by MNF party President Shri. Zoramthanga and MDF party President Shri M. Laikaw (Laiko is wrong spelling), who is also Chief Executive Member (CEM) at Mara Autonomous District Council(MADC).
MDF is a very strong political party among Maras in Mara inhabited areas in two constituencies of Saiha(Siaha) and Palak(Pala) in the South-eastern corner of Mizoram. It has one MLA Shri PP Thawla from Tuipang (Tipa) Constituency which was re-christened as Palak Constituency in 2008. Palak MLA Constituency has five more villages than the old Tuipang Constituency. It is also the first constituency in terms of counting MLA election votes in Mizoram.
Our Aizawl Correspondent predicted that MNF and MDF will contest from each seat each these two MLA constituencies. And they hope that the incumbency factor will not work against them as they are in power both the state and the council governments.
This is good news for those who wants unification of all the so-called Zo tribes in the region as people will not believe MDF in/famous slogan ‘UT for Maraland’ anymore.
