Highlights:
There are many Mara villages in Paletwa townships along River Kaladan. This river is also known as Chhimtuipui in Mizoram, India; Boinu in Chin state. In Mara language it is known as Beino.
The Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP) is being constructed along this river connecting Mizoram state India and Sittwe, also known as Akyap, Myanmar port city in Bay of Bengal (Indian ocean).
Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC), a legitimate autonomous district council for Mara people in India is often referred as West Maraland by certain people.
When British left British India, the famous partition took place; half of Mara people who lives east of River Kaladan came under the new country - Myanmar while those who live West of River Kaladan came to live in India.
Mystery and Good Question:
Younger generations will surely ask who created or divided townships in Chin state Myanmar. Why can’t Mara people be given at least one township? Or at least why can’t they be under one township? Whose idea is it that they come to live under three townships? Older generations will have to give a hard answer to this.
If democracy comes to prevail in Myanmar this injustice done to Mara people must be reverted at all cost. In fact, the tri-furcation of East Maraland I doubt must be done at the will of Chin elders though the final approval must have been given by the Junta government at the then capital Yangon.

@ burgerstud2005, I see. I heard about this but haven’t seen yet. Anyways, Chapi people are paid through NREGS, but Chakhei people were not paid a single penny when they constructed Jeepable Road from Siata to Chakhei (about 11 km) as the government sanctioned the construction of the road only upto Siata from Saiha (Siaha). The visiting cabinet minister told them that they are the first town/village in the whole Mizoram who constructed jeepable road without the help of the government.
By the way, the good news is that as you can see Kaladan river passes through the areas inhabited by our people. Therefore, Kaladan million dollar Project too will be most benefited by our own people like Maras, Khumis, etc, even in Myanmar.

How sad that Chakhei village was not paid for their works. When was this happened?.Btw,people of Maraland are quite peaceful, cooperative and gentle.I will never forget my time at that place and when I was particularly thinking about the journeys I had taken in Maraland,I still remember the warmth and caring of ‘my people’.I called them ‘my people’ because they were very kind to me and they were very special. One fine day I hope to visit as far as Lopu and Tokalo and Siasi.I do like them very much.

@ burgerstud2005 (BST5), it was long time ago… I am told that it was around 1987 or ‘78. Now, non-metal road wide enough for mini-Bus service has been constructed under PMGYS. But the Bus service was halted during rainy reason… poor non-metal road becomes too muddy during that season.. it is a very pathetic situation out there!
