Lyuva Khutla 2010: Maras’ biggest festival celebrated in South Mizoram

Lyuva Khutla 2010, the biggest festival among Mara people was celebrated at Siaha Tlyliah (Saiha District Playground) in Siaha, also known as Saiha in Southern Mizoram on Thursday, March 5, 2010. The festival Chief Guest Shri Hiphei, former MP (RS) spoke about the importance of preserving the distinct identity, culture and dances of Mara people.

School kids from Lorrain English School, Siaha presented a commendable Custom Parade, it was really liked by the crowd.

The festival was also attended by delegates from East Maraland who performed Azy La (Monkey dance), which was one of the most attention drawing performances of the day.

Maraland Idols and popular artists from Saiha and other parts of Mara district also entertain the crowd at regular intervals, making the one-day festival a memorable day.

The occassion was also used to honour three people in the district who showed an examplery bravery and sacrificial life for others, as explained below:

  1. Miss. P.Judy D/o. P.Zyusa, New Laty (for safely rescuing 2 among 4 people who were drowned in River Kolodyne in January 2009).
  2. Miss Irine Obeni Chozah D/o. C. Beilua, Chhaolo (who rescued a 2-year-old girl from a house on fire in March 2004).
  3. Mr. N. Beipahnie S/o N. Khalua(L), N.Colony, Siaha (who rescued 80-year-old Mr. K. Vasa, who fell inside 10-feet-deep well in August 2001).

The festival was organised by Art & Culture Department of Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC), Siaha, Mizoram in collaboration with Mara Thyutlia Py (Mara Young Organisation), the biggest NGO in Saiha District, Mizoram.
