Lalpanliani – Mapha sy – Mangtha le/aw video
Do you know Vulmawi recording? Vulmawi band composed a song dedicated to a Mara girl – the title of the song is ‘Mapha sy’ often written as Maphasy…
Mapha sy is a Mara word for saying have a sweat dream or goodnight. Mara word ma – dream, pha – good, sy – be it, have it. In Mizo it means Mangtha le, Mangtha aw.

Mapha = Mangtha = goodnite
Maphasy = Mangthale = literally “have goodnight”.
A common practice among Maras is that if one party already had already said, “Maphasy,” others will not respond with the same word, “Maphasy”, but they will say, “Mapha.” To respond with again “Maphasy,” sounds funny. However, the one who wishes others first will hardly start with “Mapha.”
