Khonumthung Editor arrested by Indian authorities

NEW DELHI, April 17 - Mr. Myo Myint Aung, Editor of Khonumthung News Group was arrested by the Delhi police along with three Burmese journalists in exile yesterday.

Mr. Nay Myo Min RFA Burmese service, Mr. Kyaw Thura, BBC burmese service correspondence and Khin Maung Latt, DVB Television correstpondance were arrested at 2:15 p.m. and detained at the Tuglak Road police station.

Myint Aung said over telephone that the situation was not yet clear in their case. “We are waiting for our case to be processed,” he added.

Myo Myint Aung was taking photographs during the “Free Tibet” demonstrations at India gate in New Delhi with other news agency reporters. He was arrested by the Delhi Police his wife told Khonumthung News.

“I don’t know why the authorities arrested him (Myint Aung). He told me that he went to cover the Olympic torch relay demonstrations and was taking photographs in New Delhi, yesterday morning,” his wife said.

Myo Myint Aung is an editor of the Khonumthung News Group since 2005 and has been staying in Delhi as a documented refugee of the UNHCR. Khonumthung is a member of the Burma News International (BNI) since 2003.
