ID proof a must in Delhi from Jan 15

Citizens living in Delhi will have to carry a photo identity card with them from January 15, 2007 onwards. The police say the measure is intended towards creating foolproof security in the face of rising incidence of terror, CNN-IBN reported.

The document must have the person’s photo - such as an electoral I-card, driving licence and ration card. And preferably should be a government-issued one but other ID cards like school, college and office ID cards too could be acceptable.

Delhi Police plans to bring out advertisements on January 10 and are finalizing the list of acceptable documents. But there are questions being raised over how practical this is going to be.
