Aizawl, 21 June 2007: The Hmar National Army(HNA) has called upon leaders of  the Mizoram Peoples Conference(MPC), Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee(MPCC) and ZNP to “lead and guide the youth in the right direction.”

The latest call from the militant outfit comes in the backdrop of an alleged assault on former Hmar militant leader L Z Hrangchal at his Edenthar home in the state capital Aizawl, on June 7, 2007, by some activist belonging to a political party. It also appeal to the state leaders not to instigate youths to take law into their own hands.

In an open letter addressed to the political leaders of Mizoram Mr Lalthangsang Intoate, President, Hmar National Army(HNA) said, “nobody is perfect” and that those whom the Hmar Peoples’ Convention (Democratic) had trusted had “betrayed the greater interest of Zofate.”

In a strongly worded statement against former IPS(Indian Police Service) Officer and state minister, Pu Duha, Mr Intoate said that it was “time for you and your naute(associates) to stop targeting a particular section of the Mizo tribe(read Hmar).”

“We also want to make it clear to all that HNA is not going to interfere in state Assembly elections in anyway. HNA is not against any party or any government in the state,” Mr Intoate added.

“HNA is above petty electoral politics and we make it known to all that HNA will in no way influence the state election process,” he said.

Reaffirming the HNA’s commitment to “safeguard the Mizos” coming under different state boundaries of Northeast India the HNA statement added that it was fighting for “a single administrative unit for all Mizos.”  The HNA, according to its publicity unit, is currently demanding a Union Territory status in Manipur hill districts which have predominant Mizo sub-tribe population.
