DELHI : Mara people living and studying in Delhi are gearing up to celebrate the 100th year of the arrival of the Gospel to the people and land and is learned to have invited Dr HT Sangliana MP (LS) as the Chief Guest of the event.

The 26th September 2007 marks the 100th year of the arrival of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to Mara people living in undivided India which are now in India and Myanmar.

Maraland Gospel Centenary Committee, Delhi formed by elders of Mara community in Delhi will host a one-day function in a convenient hall. It is learned that they have invited Dr. H.T Sangliana MP (LS) as the Chief Guest of the event and Liaison Officer at Mizoram House has been roped in as the Guest of Honour.

On the historical day of September 26, 1907, Pioneer Missionaries from London, Rev. & Mrs. Reginald Arthur Lorrain arrived at Saikao town in South Mizoram to spread the good news of great joy among Mara people who spread east and west of the River Kaladan in undivided India. Due to India’s partition, today, Mara people are living in Myanmar and India and so the Churches too are apart.

In India, the Churches established by the missionaries are Congregrational Church of India (Maraland) and Evangelical Church of Maraland (India) while the Church in Myanmar is Mara Evangelical Church which has its headquarters at Sittwe, a commercial port in South-western Myanmar.
