A Restaurant serving Northeast dishes in New Delhi

Want to try out Northeast food in New Delhi but can’t afford to go to Delhi Haat? There is another option in Munirka. The restaurant name is Rosang.

Northeast food

The dishes serve at Rosang simply go against what the infamous Delhi Police booklet/guide had suggested for Northeast students in Delhi. You will find all sorts of smelly yet mouth-watering dishes and delicacies from Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, diverse tastes with fascinating aromas! You name any dishes specialties from the region, you are likely to get one.

Manipuri distinct chutney - Iromba is up for Rs.10 only per plate, while Mizo’s Bai is merely Rs.15 per plate.

Also worth trying out is the Pork Sohchiar (Rs 15) – a north-eastern congee-like broth, sprinkled with dry pork, onions, chillies, coriander and just a twist of lemon, great stuff this!

Want something hot and spicy? An absolute must is the Naga Pork Curry (Rs 25), a serving of a katori of luscious, fiery-red pork curry with a fair share of the Raja Mircha (also known as the Tezpur Jhalokia which, incidentally, just outbeat the Habanero for being the hottest chilli in the world!).

Finally, end the meal in style with the famous Kwai from Shillong (Rs 10), a paan-supari combo that can beat alcohol when it comes to providing a potent kick!

Thanks to Sabina Sehgal Saikia of The Times of India for highlighting Rosang, otherwise I wouldn’t have known this. Let’s hope it goes well with the general public, for what they serve is not really what Romans’ serve in the capital.

Munirka, New DelhiMunirka is a middle-class colony located in South Delhi. It is also an old village–complete with a smattering of Lodi-era monuments–now absorbed by the relentless expansion of Delhi. The main entrance to it is located on Outer Ring Road, while the back of the colony is located directly across from Jawaharlal Nehru University, and many university students live here. It is very close to Colleges in South Campus of Delhi University. Click the image to see the location of Munirka in South Delhi map.
