A response to Lian Kunga article on miZo unification

Pu H. Zaneisang has responded to an article written by Pu Lian Kunga at Aizawl Post newspaper dated February 17, 2006. The former alleged that the latter has instigated Mizo NGOs to forcefully disband non-Lusei (non-Duhlian) speaking organisations and bodies for the sake of uniting the greater the miZo people.

This response has been posted at sialkal.com. If the statement made by Pu Lian Kunga is true, and if the writer Pu Lian Kunga is indeed an IAS officer posted in Bihar state, it is regrettable that a literate person holding such an esteem office  and post will have an outlook that will not be helpful at all in the unification.

No one FORCES any smaller Chhinlung chhuak (who came out from a cave somewhere in present day China) brethren to speak Lusei language in the past, it was out of necessity and convenience that many of them speak the language and have adopted it as their mother tongues today. And no FORCE can stop this gradual change taking place among our people if it is God’s will. It will continue to be a natural phenomenon if it continues to exhibit the same phenomenon. Even if a large sum of our people continue to speak different languages (they are not dialects) other than Lusei/Duhlian, we must respect them and accept the diversity.

Besides, we must remember that Lusei/Duhlian speaking people are just a fragment of a much bigger Chhinlung chhuak that includes 6 major groups according to Dr. Lian Sakhong and Dr. Vumson. Therefore, to say that everyone must be forced to adopt Lusei/Duhlian as their mother tongue and force them to practice and speak the language is an insult to the diverse nature of our people.

We do not agree with Pu Lian Kunga if his statements are true and if he continues to stand by his article, we request him to respond at the comment form below. We, at Samaw.com, are ever ready to respond to his statements and stances for a constructive dialogue anytime, anywhere.

I didnt read the article but I think Duhlian is spoken largely due to the fact that majority of people of Mizoram understand this language….
And historically speaking, it provided the Sailo and other kings an easy way of maintaining their towns…..
So, it has continued to this day. And more and more people will probably speak Duhlian while other languages may die out. Some are already practically dead like the ralte language.

Hi,

you can’t simply divide the Zo nation in 6 major tribes because it i is one nationa and not 6 tribes. Vumson himself said he regretted and made mistake by making those kind of sub tribe table.

look for book review of chin identity by Vumson

I did not read the article. But i could somehow understand what the two try to mean.. whatever.. as it is.. langauge is not yhe major thing that could seperate our identity. As we are indian we need to speak hindi if we want to come out of our states. The langauge we learn and speak differ from every state we are to stay. If we stay in Tamil nadu we have to learn tamil. Likewise if we are in Mizoram we need to learn mizo and speak no matter the intonation may comes. But if we know our own sub tribal langauge i strongly recommend to learn and know… but we should always try to learn our common langauge MIZO. Otherwise we will be like arunachali who speak their own subtribal langauge without knowing nor having common langauge..and that devides the unity.

HI ,

just wanna comment. You can’t label Lian what ever with Vumson on the same level. one is outright lier and another is a pure scholar.
Vumson in his Chin identity review soundly said he made mistake by making 6 subs and that since we are one nation, there is no such thing as that or it is not nesscary and it doesn’t hlep for unification.
Though i agree or more like it is a MUST that every Zo language must be safeguard and protected into legal folds and that is a necessity.

Lian sakhong or old cheap dog has lost credit in the political community. his book celary defines what kind of person he is.

Martin (Tha), you must be someone from Vunsom’s community or atleast related to Zo, Zomi, Teddim, etc. Your biased view on Lian Sakhong is very immature. Lian is a respected Scholar who wished to help Chin politicians to his best. Why call him cheap? Both are great scholars in their own right. It only shows your character. Be careful..

Dear Steven,

(Seriosuly do that, u might learn sth) Search in the web or go to a university and look for scholar work and pilgarism (un-scholar). You will fine what one needs to be in order to call himself a scholar. There are rules and ethics to follow and there is even a degree for that kind of study. Then look at Lian sakhong book and try to get all the First Hand Lies and how many ?? in every sentences ? you want to start ? Lian versus

2) The term old dog is not mine, i borrowed it. I got this term from a guy(s) who are in the Chin Political Society. They know better about him than me or maybe yourself. Though i do feel i need to apologize for using this term to a senior. it’s rude. But if it is to show the values and ethics of that particular person, simply i don’t need to regret. He is just another Hakha trying very hard and sucessfully using this term CHIN to feed his hakha society ONLY. Do bear in mind that pros like Ashely South and others are speaking cleary about that Chin Orgs are all in Hakha hands and they don’t represent the whole Chin.

3)Lian Sakhong is NTH. he must work alot for hakha people using this CHIN NAME. again ENC ? etc? it is random. they choose randomly.

last thing, u can’t simply tell people becareful unless u really mean it. think about it. but if u are angry about the term i use, yes i apologize for being rude, as he is a senior but interms of values and ethics, he is what i call he is.

sorry guys, i just have to speak it right out, remember ur mothers are not from CHINA or Chin or Jin.

thz for ur comment,i want feed backs. again sorry for not using nice words, i have limited patience for liers.

@Martin, be realistic. Chin is the name of the state and the most visible and heard name outside of Burma. That is the reason why the name CHin is used. There is no unifying name today. I guess you are from Teddim- ZOmi side.

If you refute Dr. Lian, go and get Ph.D from Uppsala University in Sweden for yourself and you will know who is who.

Bring out your points against Dr. Lian, I will try to answer you one by one. And be careful using liar. It doesn’t justify your stand. If you have no scholarly work to go against Lian, your rhetoric will be laughed at, and using words like liar do not justify your point, those words belong to literate but uneducated folks. Be careful, care for the readers in this website.

Dear Steven,
One doesn’t need a PHD from a uni to understand scholar work and pilgarism. u just need to search on the web and get the basics like in 30 minutes. There is a book review for Lian’s book by Vumson, Chin Identity book review by Vumson. Search it on the net. I really don’t wanna ruin this site. EVERYONE SHOULD READ IT. i am not saying u have to agree with it. think about that after u read it

Just because people are doing things or in places doesn’t mean that they are doing it correctly. look at CNF. A successful Hakha group manipulating the TERM CHIN for hakha’s own prosperity. again, don’t try to say that i am just Thedim, Every Zo families know what u guys have been stealing. life is very practical. when u steal from others THEY SIMPLY KNOW.

that’s about it. sorry for ur times dudes. take care. no more

hope u guys from hakha who got brainwashed by ur fathers would in near future be brave and smart enough to use ur own true identity which is ZO from Zotlang

cheers
